About Us
What We Believe
We believe that food insecurity is intertwined with issues including low pay, lack of health care, transportation, affordable education, and structural racism.
To truly eliminate hunger, we stand by these principles:
Community Collaboration
The entire community must work together, and all community members must benefit.
Access to
Healthy Food
Everyone needs access to healthy, culturally appropriate food to create a healthier and stronger community.
Systemic
Changes
Deep and meaningful changes are required to address the root causes of hunger.
Our Mission
Working with community partners to build a just and sustainable food system
Our Vision
We imagine a community where
equity is inherent in our food system.
This looks like:
• Access to the food you choose
• Justice and respect for workers
• Climate-smart agriculture
• Thriving food economy
88,000
In our three-county area, about 88,000 people are food insecure, meaning they don’t know where their next meal is coming from. This includes 27,000 children.
50,000
More than 50,000 local residents are living in food deserts – areas with limited access to affordable and nutritious food.
11,000
Preventable diseases, exacerbated by the lack of access to healthy food, have caused a loss of 11,000 years of life in the community.
These numbers are overwhelming.
We can never forget that behind these statistics are people going through a physically and emotionally tough time, each with his or her own story.
