Funding Cuts Hurting World Food Program USA ‘s Ability to Deal with Global Hunger Crisis
Our friends at the World Food Program USA contacted us and asked us to share information about their urgent Emergency Global Relief fund.
This fund has been established in response to WFP’s global appeal which warns that 58 million people risk losing life-saving aid due to an unprecedented 40% funding shortfall. Funding shortfalls are forcing the WFP to scale back operations and cut food rations in the world's worst crisis zones. Unless new funding is received quickly, 58 million people could lose lifesaving assistance across 28 hunger hotspots.
The most urgent emergencies include:
- Gaza and the West Bank where nearly the entire population is fully dependent on food assistance to live, most of them are displaced, without shelter or income. The situation is at crisis level.
- The Democratic Republic of the Congo is suffering from decades of civil war and there are now 26 million people facing acute food insecurity.
- In Haiti, violence, extreme weather and soaring inflation has led to a crisis where half the island’s population desperately needs food assistance.
The people of Sudan, Ethiopia, and Ukraine are among others urgently needing help. You can learn more about countries in crisis on the WFP page.
At the Hall Hunger Initiative, while we focus on the Miami Valley, we believe that hunger is not constrained by geographic boundries. Our founder, Tony Hall, worked to end hunger in our community and internationally, living his belief that it’s the hungry person who matters, not national boundaries.
