What We Do
WORK THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
An Integrated Approach to Food Security
We believe that taking action is the key to alleviating hunger and promoting food security. Our diverse range of programs are designed to inform, advocate and support an improved regional food system.
We approach our work with three focus areas: Leadership & Convening, Education & Advocacy, and Direct Community Support.
We invite you to explore these initiatives, get involved, and join us in creating a more equitable and food-secure Miami Valley.
Leadership & Convening
We know that working with other stakeholders around the production, economics, and access to nutritionally rich and culturally relevant foods is key to achieving equity and sustainability in our food system. We partner with other NGOs, government agencies, and community advocates to work toward this common goal of food justice to the Miami Valley region.
Advocacy & Education
A key component of the Hall Hunger Initiative’s work is advocacy and sharing information in our community. Through our weekly newsletter, speaking engagements, and workshop opportunities, we bring the latest information about what’s going on in the Miami Valley food system.
Direct Community Support
To build a better food system we have to invest in the growers, emerging leaders in food businesses and food system partners who are hard at work in the Miami Valley. Each year, Hall Hunger Initiative funds key projects and partners that get us closer to a food secure region.
How We Work
HHI takes multiple strategic actions to address these pressing issues
ELEVATE THE ISSUE
We actively engage with the community in speaking engagements, presentations, and community events to raise awareness about how we can improve the Miami Valley food system. We also lead workshops to shed light on the root causes of hunger and poverty.
BRING PEOPLE TO THE TABLE
We collaborate with individuals and organizations engaged in hunger-related work and sustainable agriculture. We connect the organizations working on hunger-related issues and strengthen their ability to be effective.
BUILD CAPACITY
When gaps are identified, the Hall Hunger Initiative offers strategic capacity-building support. Our most significant food access effort is the Gem City Market. Ambassador Hall served as the Capital Campaign Chair, and HHI continues to provide support.
COORDINATE STRATEGICALLY
To achieve a hunger-free community, we are an active partner with the Food Equity Coalition. Through this forum, we work together to create and implement a food action plan to drive systematic change.
