 Position Description

Position Overview

Development Consultant with Hall Hunger Initiative. Flexible schedule with some remote work, 20-25 hours per week, $30/hour.  A minimum of one in-person office day a week is required. The position is funded through 2025 with the potential for renewal. This position does not offer benefits. 

Purpose

The Development Consultant will support fundraising and development efforts with Hall Hunger Initiative (HHI), including providing coaching and training to the existing Development Director and additional HHI staff. The position’s objective is to focus on building relationships with public and private donors, and supporting grants research. The ideal candidate will support the Development Director to build on these relationships, and to secure funding to ensure longer term sustainability for personnel and program costs. This position will be provided a written Scope of Work upon hiring to which the ideal candidate will follow.

Key Position Duties And Responsibilities 

  • Help identify and build relationships with potential individual donors, foundations, corporations, and other funding entities

  • Develop and strengthen HHI’s grant writing portfolio through support of grant research and application review

  • Coach and support HHI Development Director to increase HHI’s fundraising capacity. 

  • In accordance with the provided Scope of Work, meet with key stakeholders, including funders, potential donors and small nonprofits to better understand regional food system needs

  • Secure calls and meetings with top prospects, invitations to apply for grants, and provide feedback on grant applications

  • Support creation of and provide feedback on fundraising materials

  • Strategize on methods for improving donor relations, donor and grant management systems

  • Review and strengthen HHI’s grant writing using best practices on keywords and targetting


Required Competencies:

  • Broad experience in grant research and writing  

  • Experience in various aspects of fundraising including special events and individual donors

  • Team-based approach

  • Ability to coach and share successful approaches

  • Community-minded

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Self-directed

  • Culturally astute

  • Familiar with Google and Microsoft programs

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 4 years proven success in development/ fundraising, nonprofit management or closely related work. Demonstration of successful development history.
